Venturer of the Week: Justin Vallance

Justin VDV first met Justin last year when he was one of our competition winners. He’s joined the campaign again this year – we’re so pleased he’s coming back! But why? Read on!

‘Hi! My name is Justin and I live in Somerset. I have a scientific background and naturally inquisitive nature. I am a hands on historian interested in local history, maps and archives, and I’ve been an amateur archaeologist since 2010.

A lifelong fan of Time Team, I could not believe my luck when I found a local archaeological and history project co-ordinated by none other than the late Prof. Mick Aston. Test pitting with him was a great pleasure and we continue his work posthumously.

I was a Weekend Venturer at Leiston Abbey 2013 and learned a lot about larger scale excavation, interpretation and recording. Such amazing weather (guess that can’t be guaranteed!), Kerry Ely’s expert tutelage and working along side a lovely group of similar enthusiasts…… I’m back for more at Leiston Abbey this year.

See you in July!’
