Nicola Mathers thumbnailVenturer of the Week – Nicola Mathers

‘Hello, my name is Nicola and I live in London. This is the first time I’ve done anything like this! I didn’t even know complete newbies like me could join a dig until a friend suggested I look into it after having to watch endless episodes of Time Team with me. I stumbled across DigVentures last year, but too late to sign up so I have been waiting patiently ever since!

My interest in archaeology started with my Environmental Studies degree where I loved both landscape interpretation and planning. I now work in urban design and planning which covers heritage, conservation and the value and impact of landscape on people.

I am so excited about the opportunity to learn from the experts and understand what really goes into a successful dig. It’s such a great way of opening up archaeology to novices like me and to feel like you are part of something important. I can’t wait!’
