Venturer profile: Andrew Borg

“Thank you for giving me the opportunity to help you out – it provides me with another avenue to pursue my love of archaeology from afar!

While channel-surfing one cold, wintry Melbourne evening, I stumbled across an actor I recognised as ‘Baldrick’.  He was talking with a group of archaeologists about a small sherd of Roman pottery he held cradled in his hands.  My interest in archaeology – something I was unable to pursue in my youth – was immediately reinvigorated, and it’s fair to say that Time Team had me hooked.

Twelve months later, and with the realisation through social media that archaeology is a passion accessible to anyone so inclined, I find myself studying Archaeology (by Distance Education through the University of Leicester).   I have a field school trip to the UK planned for 2013 and am looking forward to visiting the places that I am currently learning about – including Flag Fen!

I support DigVentures – even it is from half a world away – because of its innovative approach to hands-on,  accessible archaeology for members of the general  public;  the importance of understanding and preserving world-significant prehistoric sites such as Flag Fen, and because I want to contribute, in some small way, towards the work of the wider archaeological community.”

Thanks Andrew – we’ll pass your regards on to Tony Robinson (more news to come on that front – we’ve got a cunning plan!!!)
