Venturer profile: Miia “Myrtti” Ranta

I’ll be turning 32 on 13th of August, and my fiancé Duncan paid for the day at the dig as an early birthday present!

He lives in Warboys, and so I’m interested in Flag Fen and the Cambridgeshire area. I found out about the Flag Fen Lives campaign via BBC Cambridgeshire’s tweet about their story about the crowdfunding campaign.

I’m Finnish and lived my childhood in Valkeakoski, the town where Rapola hillfort is located. I’ve always been interested in history and archaeology, and have wanted to participate on a dig but have never had an opportunity before.

I’ve not been to Flag Fen before – we’ve always driven past when it is already shut down for the day. I suspect my fiance isn’t interested in participating in the dig, but will probably donate the required amount to be allowed to the party!

I’m looking forward to seeing with my own eyes what the job is like and if I should start saving money for studying the subject in Uni as a mature student – it’s a dream of mine
