Ros, a professional archaeologist, tells us why he is backing the DigVentures

‘Hi my name is Ros,

I’m from Ireland and I’ve been an archaeologist for many years. I’ve had a varied archaeological career, during which I have worked on fieldschools, research digs and contract excavations in Ireland, the UK, France, Italy, Romania and Lesotho. Currently, I’m undertaking a PhD on the Irish Chalcolithic and Early Bronze Age at NUI Galway, where I was head tutor for the 1st year undergrads this year. I am also the conference organiser on the board of the ‘Institute of Archaeologists of Ireland’ and I teach at a university fieldschool in the Burren during the summers.

I’m supporting DigVentures because I think it’s one of the best archaeological projects on the web, deserving of support from both outside and inside the profession. I admire its innovative approach and how it obviously engages people with archaeology in an informative but also a fun way. I’m raging I didn’t get time to visit Flag Fen last year (it being Bronze Age and all!). I’ll try to find the time to visit Leiston Abbey, which looks like a fantastic project, and will be keeping a close eye on the website. Best of luck to all the venturers and staff this year!’

Thanks Ros, it is great to have you on board and we hope to see you this summer for a site tour!
