Katherine tells us why coming to Leiston this summer is a tick on her bucket list

“My name is Katherine Oakley and I am currently working part time as a consultant in Palliative Medicine as well as being a busy mum to George, 7 and Lily, 5.   One night last year, just before I turned 40,  I sat down at my computer with a large glass of red and composed my ‘bucket list’.  The next day, amongst other things, I had signed up to do a 10k running race and appeared to be an undergraduate on a distance learning archaeology BA at the University of Leicester!  I quickly downgraded the running to a 5K but kept the BA and am now in my second year – great decision!  Time Team had awakened my interest in archaeology in the 1990s and I dreamt of becoming the resident osteoarchaeologist – admittedly I was initially attracted by the real ale and Mick Aston!  But the reality of a dig is something I have been waiting for the opportunity to do and now I’m really looking forward to my first dig at Leiston.  I’m looking forward to meeting my fellow Venturers and would love to find some human bones.  I’ll be coming on my own bringing plenty of beer, jaffa cakes and enthusiasm as well as a fear of spiders and limited camping abilities.”

Thanks Katherine, glad to hear you are bringing the jaffa cakes…
