Karen is a digital digger from Australia, supporting DigVentures from the other side of the world
“My name is Karen and I am from Oz. Not the over the rainbow kind, but almost.
I first heard of Dig Ventures on twitter. I haven’t been on there very long and frankly am still getting the hang of it. I have loved Ancient History and archaeology since school (which seems like a long time ago) so I found and followed every archaeological group I was interested in on twitter… and then you guys popped up.
Encouraging interest in history helps preserve it and uncovers information that is priceless. Instead of just the academic professionals doing ‘mysterious’ things with string, GPS, geophysics, shovels and trowels, this is an approachable way to learn about archaeology. It is all about the community learning new skills and participating in finding the country’s history. We need to get everyone involved in archaeology and this is an excellent way of doing it.
I split my time between my Father-in-Law and my parents, all of whom are quite elderly, so participating in digs or doing anything other than caring for those people is impossible. I cannot join you physically, so digital support was a brilliant alternative. I will be keeping up-to-date with you all and wishing my aching bones could be there. I wish you endless luck in raising the rest of the money.”
Thanks Karen, Good to have your support all the way from Australia!
