Crowdfunding Archaeology

posts-showing-the-causeway-through-the-mere-lake-768x1024Project Director Brendon Wilkins gives a personal viewpoint over on his blog at www.diggingthedirt.com, explaining some of the background to Flag Fen Lives – the first European experiment in crowdfunding and crowdsourcing an archaeological excavation.

“As well as the important research and investigation of the prehistoric archaeology at Flag Fen, the project will also be studied by Public Archaeologists from UCL, who will coordinate interviews and questionnaires with participants and measure the impact of our project online.

I’m passionate about crowdfunding Flag Fen Lives, and delighted to have these guys on board so we can learn as much about this new approach as possible (we want to be doing it for years to come!). The DV team will be presenting the project at the European Association of Archaeologists annual conference in Helsinki in September – with publication in an academic journal soon after.

Hope you can join us (either at Flag Fen or in Helsinki!).

All the best,

Brendon”
