Minecraft Worlds

This world, created by students aged 11-19, was based on archaeological evidence from a palaeolithic excavation. They recreated the ancient river, plants and animals which would have once populated the long-gone landscape. Included in this world is a recreation of the archaeological excavation that uncovered the evidence telling us more about the history of the area.

Another example of a Palaeolithic landscape recreated in Minecraft. This group of students worked together to create a mammoth, cave bear, and a rhinoceros. To demonstrate the possible interaction between Neanderthals and animals, they built a large spear heading towards the side of a mammoth.

Using an existing landscape within Minecraft, these students worked to modify the map to more accurately reflect the palaeolithic landscape. They situated a mammoth and a rhinoceros along the rivers edge, while also including buttercups and pondweed. They learned which plants were common to the landscape over 200,000 years ago based on archaeological findings.

This Minecraft build focussed particularly on the flora of the palaeolithic landscape. The excavation found evidence of several flower, grass and tree species, which the students then integrated into their Minecraft worlds.

Another Minecraft world made by the students which incorporates both the palaeolithic landscape and the modern day excavation. Surrounded by a ring of oak trees, this world has included the ancient river and a number of palaeolithic megafauna. On the outside of the tree ring, you will find a trench based on the archaeological excavation.
