The year 2020 has brought with it new territory for archaeologists. With the recent lockdown, heritage has had to adapt so we can keep bringing the joy of the past to the wider public, from within their homes! In this talk, Neil Redfern (Director of the CBA) reveals how the organisation is supporting participation and active archaeology in lockdown.

DigNation Festival brings archaeologists and archaeology-fans together to delight in some of the best discoveries from around the world. Festival-goers get a front-row seat at talks from the archaeologists themselves, and a behind-the-scenes insight into how the discoveries were made. There’s also plenty of opportunity to get involved in real archaeology too!
The festival was launched in 2018 by DigVentures, Sir Tony Robinson, and our community of crowdfunders. It was held in honour of Mick Aston (Time Team’s beloved lead-archaeologist), and featured talks from Time Team’s key castmembers.
DigNation: Big Dig Energy was held during the first lockdown of the coronavirus pandemic in May 2020, and featured talks from archaeologists working in over 20 countries, including England, Egypt, Jordan, India, Mali, and Mexico.
It is entirely supported by the DigVentures community. And long may it continue!
Always wanted to try archaeology? Join us on a dig and help our team as we strive to unearth brand new evidence about the past. It's never too late (or too early) to live your dream of being an archaeologist, and be part of our mission to make archaeology accessible to all. All ages, and all levels of experience welcome!
