The Borgund Kaupang Project (BKP) digs into the everyday life of the town folks of the deserted medieval town Borgund in western Norway. Only of only 14 medieval towns in Norway, this elusive settlement disappeared from history after 1570, before being rediscovered in 1953. Despite being excavated throughout the 1950s and 60s, little was done with the wealth of finds from the site. Now, field work is not carried out under the rainy sky, but rather in the archives of the University Museum of Bergen. Here 45,000 objects, human and animal remains, as well as documentation from 30+ seasons of excavations in Borgund, are kept. In BKP, this legacy is being re-examined with exciting new methods to shed new light on the history of Borgund.
