What did archaeologists recently discover buried in Barnard Castle? Come and find out over a pint with the archaeologists themselves at the Old Well Inn! Together, we’ll enjoy a relaxed evening of exciting discoveries, great company, and a bit of friendly competition with the Big Barnard Castle Pub Quiz!

This won’t be your typical history lecture – get hands-on with genuine artefacts recovered from the excavation, from pottery fragments to personal items lost by castle residents centuries ago. Our archaeologists will guide you through the most significant discoveries from this season’s dig, bringing to life the medieval history of Barnard Castle and its archaeological potential.

The highlight of the evening? We’ll wrap up the night with a pub quiz – team up with old friends or make new ones as you compete for fantastic prizes.

We’ll start the evening with History On Tap, where the archaeology flows as freely as the beer.

Handle genuine artefacts found in Barnard Castle’s Outer Ward, while the archaeologists who unearthed them share their most exciting discoveries.

Ask questions, learn something new, and experience history up close in the cozy atmosphere of the Old Well Inn. Fascinating archaeology, friendly experts, and your favorite beverage!

7pm - The Big Barnard Castle Pub Quiz

Step back in time and put your wits to the test at the Big Barnard Castle Pub Quiz!

Join a team with friends (old or new) and answer questions themed around Barnard Castle’s fascinating past and present. From medieval mysteries to modern landmarks, this quiz is designed for everyone – whether you’re a history expert or just enjoy a good pint and local trivia.
