Settlement Type

Building (settlement)

A building can be defined as a structure with walls and a roof.

This will generally refer to a structure that is still standing, but it may be appropriate when there is substantial foundation material remaining.

This monument type can be used if there is evidence of a building and there is no more specific appropriate monument type.

What to look for:

  • Standing structure
  • Evidence of generally rectangular foundation in timber, stone, brick or earth
