DigNation Festival

Season 1: Episode 13

Over 750 people around the world have crowdfunded our archaeological excavations at Lindisfarne, helping us to seek out evidence of the Anglo-Saxon monastery that was so famously raided by the Vikings in AD 793. Starting out in AD 635, this humble collection of timber-framed buildings quickly grew to become one of the biggest, and busiest, settlements in the Kingdom of Northumbria. With help from our crowdfunders, we've made some remarkable discoveries, and Chris Caswell wants to show you some of the best so far... in 3D!

DigNation Festival

DigNation Festival brings archaeologists and archaeology-fans together to delight in some of the best discoveries from around the world. Festival-goers get a front-row seat at talks from the archaeologists themselves, and a behind-the-scenes insight into how the discoveries were made. There’s also plenty of opportunity to get involved in real archaeology too!

The festival was launched in 2018 by DigVentures, Sir Tony Robinson, and our community of crowdfunders. It was held in honour of Mick Aston (Time Team’s beloved lead-archaeologist), and featured talks from Time Team’s key castmembers.

DigNation: Big Dig Energy was held during the first lockdown of the coronavirus pandemic in May 2020, and featured talks from archaeologists working in over 20 countries, including England, Egypt, Jordan, India, Mali, and Mexico.

It is entirely supported by the DigVentures community. And long may it continue!
