mick aston

Today, we lost one of the greats. Mick Aston was well-known and well-loved: for his scholarship, for his commitment to archaeology and indefatigable individuality. It is impossible to quantify his contribution to archaeology in the UK, and the ripple effect it will have for generations to come.

At DV HQ, there is sadness as several of our team had spent over a decade with him on Time Team. But what has emerged from remembrances is less sadness, more laughter and an appreciation for his inspirational personality: sometimes prickly, always informed and challenging, a lovely man, one-of-a-kind, the one that broke the mould.

So we want to thank Mick. Thanks for all the years. Thanks for all the laughs. Thanks for being such a champion. We would love for him to be remembered for all the wonderful memories he has inspired for everyone, so let’s hear your voices: #thanksMick
